A 65L backcountry hunting and hiking pack marking 5.11 Tactical's entry into the outdoor performance space.

5.11 Tactical needed a backcountry hunting and hiking pack that could credibly compete in the outdoor performance space — without abandoning the hard-use DNA their core customer base trusted.
The Challenge:
5.11 had deep credibility with law enforcement and military professionals, but breaking into the backcountry market meant designing for a different set of demands — where weight, packability, and all-day comfort matter as much as durability.
The Solution:
As Lead Industrial Designer, I developed the full CMF and material strategy, building a suspension system and feature set around the dual-use backcountry hunter and long-distance hiker.
The Result:
The Skyweight 65L launched as the anchor piece of 5.11's Skyweight Collection — a modular system of packs and chest rigs that marked the brand's successful entry into the outdoor performance market.
